Phoenix Auctions Sale - 107

Worldwide Public Auction - March 3, 2025

A very warm welcome to our ‘Jim Parise Back-of-Book Sale (Phoenix Sale No 107), to be held in our Boardroom on Monday 3rd March, commencing at 10.00am.

Session 1 commences at 10.00am (lots 4001-4270) and features War Savings Stamps, Booklets & Loans, Revenues, Railway & Private Carrier Stamps, Commemorative Medallions, Airmail Vignettes, Covers & Ephemera, etc.

Session 2 will commence no earlier than 1pm (lots 4271-4578) featuring Cinderellas & Ephemera, major sections in this session are Patriotic, Federation & Celebrations (centenaries etc).

Jim was born in 1928 in the Gippsland town of Trafalgar. He grew up on a dairy farm in Yarragon. In his early 20s the family moved to North Fitzroy where, for the next 9 years, Jim found work as an accountant at Moran and Cato, at the time, the largest chain of grocery stores in Australia, Jim’s interests - accountancy, mathematics and history - became the foundation for his lifelong love and hobby of collecting stamps, letters, coins, books and ephemera. In the late 1950s Jim returned to Trafalgar to assist his father in managing the farm. He married in 1957 and had two sons and a daughter.

Jim was fortunate to have the time to pursue his hobbies. He was especially passionate about local history and was able to talk at length about the origins of the image on a stamp, or the details of a First Day Cover, or the establishment of post offices in every town.

Jim passed away at the age of 95 in October of last year and his long life and passion enabled him to acquire a vast wealth of knowledge and impressive collections, including many rare items. He was meticulous, organized and proactive in seeking unique stamps, coins and other items which held special interest. Jim was well-respected and he treasured his stamp friends dearly. His many days attending fairs and auctions were the highlight of his life.

This auction represents the breadth of his collecting with many fine and rare items. He was particularly strong in areas such as War Savings stamps, Cinderellas, Ephemera, Commemorative Medallions, First Flights etc. The auction is organized into these broad sections and then by Australian Commonwealth, by state and then Rest of World, within these sub-categories it is further organized into topics. We hope you find this treatment helpful. Notes:

  • The buyer's commission is just 20.9%.
  • New bidders need to be aware that, while there is no room bidding for these auctions, viewing, phone bidding and live internet bidding are still available. Lastly live bidding will skip over lots without any form of bid, so please enter some sort of bid, even if it is just $1, to ensure that these lots appear during live bidding. We hope you find its wide range of lots useful and interesting.
