129 / c, entire, etc. imageBarbados: Postal Cards, 1882 (July 4) Barbados U.P.U. formula postcard addressed to Prince Kofi Nti c/o J.H. Collens in Port of Spain, Trinidad franked at 1d. postcard rate (within 300 nautical miles, from 1881) by 1875-78 1d. tied by open bootheel duplex with Trinidad July 6 arrival c.d.s. alongside. Very rare, only three examples known. Prince Nana Kofi Ntim, also known as William Kofi Nti, son of Ashanti King Kofi Karikari, had arrived in Trinidad on July 1 having become a ward of the British Government in 1874 after the Treaty of Fomena ended the 1873-1874 Sagrenti War. James Henry Collins was the headmaster of a boys school at Tranquillity, Port of Spain into whose care the prince was given after time in England. He is today also remembered for designing and leading the construction in 1883 of the building west of Port of Spain used as a signal station for the port and army. Photo. (Image1)
