Ex Dale Forster. By rail from Colon to Panama City, then by New Zealand ship 'Kaikoura' ex Panama 25.3.1867; arrived Auckland 25.4.1867 & Sydney 1.5.1867.
1875 (Nov 30) trans-Pacific cover to New South Wales with 3c green single & strip of 3 with target cancels of 'TURLOCK/CAL' (cds below), assessed as overweight with 'INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID' handstamp & superlative strike of the '12' handstamp of San Francisco, Sydney transit of JA7/1876 & Newcastle arrival of the next day, minor blemishes. Ex Dale Forster, who advises that provided one rate was pre-paid, only the additional postage was required with no penalty, NSW retaining the second 12c/6d. Early example of underpaid Treaty mail from San Francisco.
1884 (early June) cover with 'Boone Lodge No 1/IOOF' imprint at upper-left, to Queensland but paid only 5c Garfield, San Francisco backstamp of JUN/11 & rubber 'RETURNED/FOR/POSTAGE' in purple on the face, unusual "fish" 'HELD FOR/POSTAGE' handstamp, extra 2c red-brown & 5c Garfield tied by LOUISVILLE/ JUN/25/1884/KY' duplex, the reverse also with Brisbane transit of AU--/84 & 'GYMPIE' arrival of AU5/84, 'UNCLAIMED' handstamp (on the face) & tiny Brisbane Dead Letter Office cds of SP24/84, returned via Washington DC (on the face) with triangular DLO datestamp & 'LOUISVILLE KY/JAN/4/1886/RECD' (hopefully an error for 1885) arrival, a bit soiled.

CONFEDERATE STATES: c.1863 cover to "Oaks P Office/Orange County/NC" with an exceptional example of '10 CENTS' Jefferson Davis Scott 11 tied by very fine 'PATTERSON/SEP/14/NC' cds. A superb stamp on a very fine internal North Carolina cover. Philatelic Foundation Certificate (1998).
1851-57 Imperf Franklin 1c deep ultramarine Type II Scott 7 complete reconstruction (rejoined with hinges) of the Major Plate Crack comprising Pos [2L/13L/23L] plus [3L] in pair with [2L] [12L] & [33L2, which is apparently unsed], virtually full margins, a couple of tiny imperfections that are of no consequence for this technically important multiple, lightly cancelled, Cat US$1600 for the four impacted positions plus US$300 for the other two, as singles. Sold at the Robert Siegel auction in October 2019 for US$2185.
1857-61 Perf 15½ Washington 3c red-brown (stated by our vendor to be "rose-brown") Type III Scott 26 with the Major Horizontal Plate Crack Pos [71L18] (Late State), straight-edge at left, light cds, Cat US$400. A very attractive example of the famous Big Crack; plus the adjoining unit [72L18] with the continuation of the crack through the upper-left rosette & 'PO' of 'POSTAGE', a few trimmed perfs, faded from someone trying to erase the parallel-lines manuscript cancel, Cat US$250. (2)
1869 Pictorials 15c Landing of Columbus as the adopted design but with Smaller '15' at the Base monocolour die proof in (milk) chocolate-brown with tiny imprint 'NATIONAL BANK NOT CO NY' 10mm below the design, on India paper (62x50mm) affixed to a recessed piece of thin card (77x65mm) Scott 118-E3, Cat US$5000. Superb. Ex the Earl of Crawford and Falk Finkelburg (1999) where described as "orange-brown", which Blind Freddy can see is incorrect. Which is funny because a notice in the catalogue states "Due to inconsistencies in colour nomenclature and listings, we have sometimes deviated from the Scott catalogue"! Sold in 1999 for US$5775 (= A$9000 approximately at the time).
CINDERELLAS: Two volumes of poster stamps, commercial advertising, electoral & political propaganda, Boys' Town, Lutheran Missions, crippled & orphaned children, Easter & Christmas seals, trade unions, 1939 World's Fair, flower shows, etc, some in blocks or complete sheetlets, the majority unused (no gum) otherwise generally fine to very fine.
