image image 1968, "Chairman Mao's Inscription to Japanese Worker Friends" prepared for use but not issued 8f black on red (Yang W84), resplendent color, pristine mint, o.g., never hinged, an immaculate Extremely Fine gem. A superlative example of this Cultural Revolution rarity, with 1999 B.P.A. certificate.

In 1962, Chairman Mao received a delegation of Japanese workers sympathetic to Communist ideas, and wrote an "inscription" to Japanese workers encouraging them in their quest to bring Communism to Japan. In 1968, on the sixth anniversary of the workers' visit, it was decided to issue this inscription on a stamp, but the Japanese government strongly objected on the basis that it might inspire an uprising. China complied, and the stamp was officially withdrawn from issue. Est. HK$400,000-500,000

image image 1968, "Great Victory of the Cultural Revolution" 8f. Chairman Mao and Lin Biao before victory celebration in countryside, a stellar example from the top left corner of the sheet with selvedge on two sides, showing part guideline cross in top margin, brilliant colors on pristine white paper, mint with full immaculate never hinged original white gum, Extremely Fine. Truly outstanding in every respect.

The post office at Hebei had already begun selling stamps prior to the official issuance date and before the order was given to cancel the issue and return the stamps to Beijing.

The 1968 "Great Victory of the Cultural Revolution" 8-fen stamp depicting Chairman Mao and Lin Bin Piao appearing at a Victory celebration in the countryside takes up one of Mao's favorite themes, which stresses the importance of the rural areas. This anti-urban policy manifested itself in the forced emigration of young intellectuals and members of the Red Guards from the cities under Chairman Mao's "Down the Countryside Movement". It has been surmised that Lin's appearance on the stamp coincided with Mao's need for his support. Coupled with its great rarity is the historical theme and its actors, which make this a most sough-after stamp.
