image China, Sizable Treasure Trove including PRC, 1880s-, formed by one man's passion of acquisition, rather than collecting, a large grouping housed in two containers similar in size to bankers boxes, with anything from the most modest stamp to stamps of real value. This collector started out buying anything that caught his fancy, and had the resources to buy collections of any size—which he then proceeded to break down by taking all the stamps off the pages and carefully bagging them in quart and gallon plastic bags organized by country. Anything went into these bags regardless of value. This lot has over 11 lbs. of loose stamps from the 1880s through modern (accumulated from collections during the past decades), a used collection on notebook pages including PRC, commercial covers and First Day Covers, a stack of album pages with plenty of value, etc., overall Fine to Very Fine, huge value. image Japan, The "Everything Under the Rising Sun" Compendium of Collections, 1871-modern, how many Japan collections does one man need? 88 is apparently the answer, comprising 30 Scott albums, a mix of White Ace, Lighthouse and homemade albums, plus stockbooks as well; this lot offers both collections and stocks, mint and used, hinged and mounted, with most material from the later 1870s on; a massive amount of material is present, if unevenly distributed—some albums are sparse, others are well-filled, but you'll find most of what you're looking for: definitives and commemoratives, New Year and some National Park sheets, Prefectural issues, Airs, some Revenues and Japanese Occupations, etc., etc.; a boon for the cancel collector, with botas, fancies, Meiji-dated, and more to the modern, both domestic and foreign (one binder dedicated to better-struck cancels); modern offers plenty of face value material, with most stamps up to 80Y (a few higher spotted), with sheets to further boost the total; some albums in need of replacement, some pages pristine…this lot presents myriad possibilities for the dealer, Fine to Very Fine with better throughout, inspection a must—a great deal at our low estimate. Cat No: Collection

image Japan, Mint Melange from Meiji to Modern, a combobulation of commemorative, definitives, coils, souvenir sheets, Airs, and more, organized to greater or lesser degrees by glassines and sales cards, but in need of a thorough going through; the earliest item we spotted was a 1906 #111, the latest some recent booklets or souvenir sheets (good for postage, with values in the 50Y-80Y-110Y range), but the majority of items seem to run from Tazawas through the 1960s; much of interest, including inscription singles and blocks, part-sheets, full sheets, booklet panes, Mt. Fuji & Deer issues, Showa definitives (some marginal with markings), a #422a (never hinged, but with corner selvage damage), #508b inscription block (with barest trace of hinge, if any at all), etc.; solid duplication, with time spent organizing and grouping richly rewarded, Fine to Very Fine with much better, inspection invited. image Japan, Mostly First Day Cover Compilation, ca. 1906-87, several hundreds of covers in total, the majority sleeved, many identified and ready for sale, but in need of organizing; most appear to fall between the mid-1930s and mid-1950s, but we note a 1906 Triumphal Review-cancelled postcard and a 1987 New Year sheetlet, which gives a sense of just what might be found; the covers include all issues—commemoratives (e.g., numerous Men of Culture, including the key #492), definitives (including numerous First Showas, #517a, 519), National Parks, New Years, some souvenir sheets, Semi-Postals, and Airs, along with a handful of First Flight and other commemorative covers; given the number of covers present, duplication is surprisingly light and in useful quantities; expect the occasional toned or faulty item, but overwhelmingly sound, many attractively cacheted, and with much to commend themselves, Very Fine overall, see a sampling online. image Philippines, 1898 2m orange brown, an incredible complete bundle of 500 sheets (Scott 193), of 100 stamps each with serial numbers 0006001 to 006500 at top right with original Spanish post office printed label affixed and bundled by original string which has worn through the labels on both sides and the cardboard covers at the edges, the stamps are basically stuck together and are in fine condition but it doesn’t matter because this is the only complete bundle of any Spanish Philippines stamp extant, it is stunning that this museum worthy artifact has survived intact for 125 years, Very Fine, According to an article by Don Peterson and Richard Miggins that appeared in the Third Quarter 2016 Philippine Philatelic Journal, the bundle was shipped from the National Stamp Factory in Madrid to Manila in late 1897 and sales began on January 1, 1898. They wrote, "According to Bartels et al. (1904), 700,000 of these stamps were printed and shipped to Manila … (meaning) a total of 14 separate bundles… the number "13" was written at the top of this bundle. Also, the 2m was issued to pay the newspaper rate to Spain and its colonies, and since the use of Spanish stamps in the Philippines was abruptly ended in June 1898, there surely were many leftovers of this issue in the post office where, presumably the stamps remained in their bundles waiting for use. image Ryukyus, Sensational All-Mint Collection, 1948-68, Mounted on pretty White Ace pages, an extraordinary collection of the Ryukyu Islands, which is not only complete to 1968 but also goes above and beyond with provisional issues of the Miyako and Yaeyama Districts, over 60 all-different inscription blocks, 26 pieces of unused postal stationery, plate & paper varieties, as well as errors, such as #44b (horizontal pair in strip of 5, imperf between), 45a (horizontal pair, imperf between), 46c (horizontal pair in strip of 3, imperf between), and the extremely scarce #90a (horizontal pair in a strip of 4, imperf between).
