image Mint and Used Collection of Early China, 1878 to 1938, neatly displayed in black mounts on 18 quadrille pages, plus another 5 pages containing Shanghai and Local Posts. The collection starts with mostly used first issues, noting better items such as Scott #1 (c.v. $400), 3 ($600), 5 ($500), 13 (x3, $60 each), 14 (x3, $125 each), 24 (mint, $900), 40 (x3, $350 each), 41 ($375), 73 ($190), and so on, with some duplication, as well as mint issues here and there, including, Postage Dues and an Officially Sealed stamp. The collection contains 4 pages of "Junk" and similar definitive issues which we did not count in the total, as well as one page of Airmails, which we also did not count, which includes a Scott #C42, which, if genuine would catalogue $2,500. We also noted some postmarks of interest, such as a Registered Shanghai squared circle and various early Customs c.d.s. Last but not least, there are 5 pages with issues from Shanghai (incl. some postal stationery cut-outs), Postage Dues, etc., Manuchuria overprints, Kewkiang, Amoy, Chungking, Chefoo and Foochow, which are also not part of our catalogue value total, and could contain some better surprises. Overall fine or better, as few early issues with faults (indicated as "n/c") have not been counted. All pages are scanned online. (Image)

image Mint and Used Collection of the People's Republic of China, 1949 to 1967, all hinged onto home made pages, with each issue accompanied by a cut out from a Chinese catalogue giving print date, etc. We note many complete and part sets, with a mix of mint and used, but with a predominance of used with c.t.o. cancels. The early issues were mostly counted as reprints, except for the gymnastics group which appeared original printings to us. Generally fine to very fine, we have scanned a few pages only to give a glimpse into this collection. (Image)

image Collection of Japanese "Mihon" Specimen Overprinted Stamps, 1940 to 1972, a mint never hinged collection of about 660 different stamps (souvenir sheets, booklets, blocks, etc. counted as one) displayed in black mounts on quadrille pages in two albums. We noted several better items such as National Parks souvenir sheets (some with folder), and singles as well as Scott #s 435, 481-497 (part set missing #480), 508a, 520, 521A, 521B, C14-C24 and much more. The collection becomes more comprehensive from the 1960s-on. The Specimen overprinted stamps of Japan (called "Mihon") became available to the public only after 1957, and so they are scarcer and more sought-after before 1956. We have catalogued the collection from 1940 to 1956 (as regular, unoverprinted issues) which came to $5,800 (including Airs and Semi-Postals of the era). Overall fresh and fine to very fine and seldom offered, our online photos give a small taste only. (Image)
