1248 imageGB.QUEEN VICTORIA - 1840 POSTAL NOTICE - REGISTRATION OF LETTERS. 1840, December postal notice announcing 'Registration of Letters.' By Command, W. L. Maberly. Announces system of registration is to be adopted on 6 January 1841. The fee of 1s to be paid in cash, and on Foreign, Colonial, or on Ship Letters can only be valid to the Port of despatch. The notice extols the benefits of Money Orders for small amounts of money, that bank notes should be cut in half, the second half not to be dispatched until confirmation that the first has been received, plus much else. A rare & important notice.
