Smith / pilot of G.AELT' on front, addressed to Northampton, England, presumably posted upon arrival in George. The air race was run in conjunction with the 1936 Empire Exhibition, leaving Portsmouth on 29th September. Victor Smith flying a Miles Sparrowhawk had problems with oil after Salonika and eventually retired from the race in Khartoum, he later arrived at George on 6.10.36. 'South African Airmails' by Nicholas Arrow states 35 covers flown, this cover quite different from other V.C. Smith covers with pictorial Air Race cachet on front.
