1886 (Aug 11) overweight cover to GB with remarkable franking of De La Rue 2d x12 tied by multiple strikes of the 36-Rays '85'
(rated RRRR) of 'BOOLIGAL' (cds below), fine 'DEFICIENT POSTAGE ("1/6")/FINE ("1/6")' handstamp. [Both Hopson & Tobin and Hugh Freeman state that Booligal (1) opened 7.3.1861 & closed 30.9.1865, and that Booligal (2) opened 7.3.1866. The 36-Rays '85'
would have been issued in 1861, and the rating suggests it was not used after the re-opening, when the unrated 16-Rays '35' was introduced. However, here it is, used 21 years after the first office closed. Curious] (Image1)
