POSTAL HISTORY: 1922 (Sep) cover with British 1½d tied by indistinct cds, to Dublin endorsed "over/1oz" with '1D' handstamp &
British Postage Due 1d tied by light Dublin cds of 30SP/22. At the height of the Irish Civil War, postal workers went on strike protesting against pay cuts. Action began on 10.9.1922, the government claiming that it threatened the very existence of
the new Irish Free State, and taking hard-line action against the "rebels". The strike collapsed on 29.9.1922. This cover was processed at Dublin on the first day after the strike was called-off. British Postage Dues remained in use until the first
Irish issue in 1925. (Image1)
