1928 (Nov. 21) Port Moresby - USA Internal Airmail, combination franking (AAMC.P1a) on registered cover to East Orange, NJ with Lakatois ½d (14) & 2d pair tied 'PORT MORESBY/PAPUA' datestamps, red/white registration label, cover carried by ship to Australia and then to the west coast of America, 5c Beacon Airmail tied by 'SAN FRANCISCO/JAN20/CALIF/1929' transit to the reverse paying the domestic airmail fee, fine condition, Cat. $800. 29 Aug.1935 Port Moresby - Ioma flown cover (AAMC.P86) with Silver Jubilee set plus 3d Air tied by PORT MORESBY '29AU35' cds's, cover endorsed and signed by pilot Orme Denny, IOMA P.O. backstamp, fine condition.
1912 (Nov. 24) cover to Sydney with Queensland 1d Sideface tied by THURSDAY ISLAND '24NO12' cds with another superb strike alongside; 'KONINKLIJKE PAKETVAART MAATSCHAPPIJ' ship illustration on the cover flap and as part of the illustrated headers on two sheets of writing paper with letter written on board SS Van Waerwijck at the Gulf of Papua, giving details from a traveller's diary noting that the natives are "keen traders" wanting "one bob", "two bob" or sometimes "one shilleen" (sic) for articles, and "Port Moresby is not much of a place....I saw a prison gang (native) working on the roads. The greater part of the European population seems to spend its spare time drinking." Evocative item.
