Bermuda: 1872 (Nov. 8) unpaid local envelope (closed tears at right) to the 69th Regiment in Boaz endorsed “Governor” at lower left and with “HAMILTON/BERMUDA” c.d.s. (code A; type H1) at top and believed to be
the only example of a free letter sent by the Governor in the pre-U.P.U. period. Photo. Note: The addressee, Major Smyth (or Smith) of the 69th Foot Infantry (South Lincolnshire Regiment) arrived from Canada in 1871 to protect to the dockyard,
