2357 / c, entire, etc. imageUsed Abroad: Peru: Callao: Undated (Oct.) 1865 envelope (closed tear affecting the franking, a few stains in places) to Wales franked combination GB 1s. plate 4 pair (wing margin; defective perforations) and Peru 1 dinero all cancelled by apparently local three-bar “D” hand stamps and without British markings other than a London transit and Haverfordwest c.d.s. on front and rear. Exceptionally early use of British stamps in Callao and the only example of such cancellations on a British franking we have traced; possibly just before the introduction of the “C38” bar cancellation (known from Oct. 1865). This local (Peruvian) cancellation unrecorded by Parmenter (1993) at page 100. Photo. (Image1)
