1281 / c, entire, etc. imageRussia: World War I: Unusual real photographic picture postcard showing the deck and crew of SS “Umona” in Arctic seas en route to Russia with the (French) sender on board, the photograph taken on July 13 1917 and described as unique in accompanying message, sent to France from Kiev Oct. 13 1917 shortly before the Bolshevik Uprising, the stamp (carefully) removed. The SS "Umona" made several voyages to Arctic regions, being used to transport crews for E-class submarines operating in the Baltic Sea as well as in 1915 carrying the Royal Naval Armoured Car Division to Russia. She survived the First World War but was sunk by enemy action off Sierra Leone in 1941. Photo. (Image1)
