In 1914 the Belgian Boy Scouts transferred their Headquarters to Calais after their country was occupied by the German Army. The Scouts were active at the Naval Base and the Field Hospital as well as running the postal service in Calais, also postcard of Belgian Boy Scouts distributing food and drink in the firing line. 136 / c, entire, etc. imageBelgium: ?1940 cover addressed to Rotterdam and transported by the Belgian Boy Scout Mail delivery service, handed in at the post office and 5c. stamp applied, cancelled Aug. 6 and delivered by the regular mail of the Netherlands to Rotterdam, with large violet “BADEN POWELL BELGIAN BOY & SEA SCOUTS” cachet and smaller blue “B.P. BELGIAN BOY SCOUTS/DISTRICT LIEGE” cachet, a rare interesting item. Active from the early part of World War II until the summer of 1940, the service went from Brussels via Liege to the Belgian-Netherlands border by car and most likely illegally crossed the border at the small town of Eijsden.
