Aug. 9-12, 6--AM" duplex cancel ties 1c Green to picture postcard of enormous beached whale to Camden N.J., ms. "via Aeroplane" and violet "Ocean City & Stone Harbor Aerial U.S. Mail Service" two-line handstamp, signed by pilot Marshall E. Reid, second No. 46b, a scarce post Aug. 12 extension authorization use, "Stone Harbor N.J. Aug. 19" duplex datestamp on 1c Red postal card (UX24) to Cambridge Mass, same violet two-line handstamp cachet, message reads "Dear Sir, I beg to advise that the aeroplane mail service is concluded. It was in operation from 8/3 to 8/13 carrying in four trips from Ocean City N.J. distance 21 miles a total of 11,456 pcs mail and three trips from Stone Harbor N.J. a total of 1,059 pcs. 1933, July 23, Flight by Captain and Mrs. Mollison, Pendine, Wales to New York (AAMC 1185). Typewritten "Per Airplane 'Seafarer'/London-New York/June 1933" and autographed by both, letter addressed to New York, Very Fine and rare transatlantic flight cover, only four carried -- the plane crossed the Atlantic successfully but ran out of gas and was forced down in a marsh at Stratford, Connecticut, the plane was wrecked and both pilots were injured, all covers from this flight have the stamps floated off and some water staining -- ex Krinsky and Robertson (Image)
