South Carolina Volunteers, Gen Anderson's Brigade, Richmond, Va., Extremely Fine and choice, An unusual use addressed to a Swedish Confederate Soldier sent from his wife.; with 2012 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 4  Estimate $300 - 400. Romare was born in Torekov, Sweden in 1828. His father was a sea captain and Romare's first service as a sailor was on board a ship to the United States. He also sailed to Mexico, the West Indies and ports along the Eastern U.S. coast. He settled in Charleston, S.C. after taking ill in 1850. When the war started he volunteered for the CSA unit "Chester Blues" and served in Charleston and experienced the beginning of the war at Fort Sumter. Later his company was transferred to the Sixth South Carolina Infantry Regiment. He was later promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant and fought in the Army of Northern Virginia until Nov. 1863. He then transferred to the Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General's Office in Richmond, Va. where he remained until the end of the war. (Image1)

It is thought that the most fighting done this winter will be at Bowling Green…", F.-V.F., A very rare patriotic design with patriotic enclosure. C.S.A. No. F11-19  Estimate $2,000 - 3,000. Red Bridge was also known as Mooresburg, Tenn. and is unlisted in the new CSA catalog. This is the only recorded example of this postmark. Dickson in Salem, N.C., stain affects Davis and some paper loss affects rating, with original full color Tenn. 11-Star Flag design (F11-8) lettersheet datelined Nov. 28 with some interesting content, "You must remember that it is all together owing to the mails, I wrote to you in my last about the mail-road bridges being burned and other damages being done on the roads, by the Lincolnites that has caused a great deal of detention in the mails, and also in the travel. They are now rebuilding the bridges and repairing the roads.", he mentions fleeing to North Carolina but the danger seems to have passed, Fine and rare patriotic cover and enclosure. C.S.A.
