GERMAN STATES COLLECTION
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
2023 ngogO German States extensive and important mint and used collection, housed in Lighthouse album and containing many hundreds of largely different with all the different German States and related issues represented, including Heligoland, North German Confederation and the occupation issues of Alsace and Lorraine, of most significance in this collection is the collector's desire to collect this area mint or unused, in this endeavor he was quite successful amassing an impressive array of mint and unused stamps from an area that is most elusive, used are also included and tucked behind the mint examples, but mint and unused were the primary focus, some of the better states we note include the large states of Bavaria and Wurttemberg, which have the numerous more modern issues that go into the 20th century, but they also contain the early issues as well including some of the scarce imperforates, Baden is another collection that is extensive, and in addition to the mint more emphasis was placed on used in this state, Thurn and Taxis is very comprehensive including the better early issues, the other States are similarly collected with as many mint as the collector could acquire and a modest amount of used, condition is decidedly mixed as would be expected in this difficult collecting area, on the early issues faults are found throughout, this is particularly true of rare and high catalog value items, but they are usually back flaws that do not affect the appearance, includes stamps without gum, which with some States is a normal collecting category and are priced that way, but there are also many more modestly valued stamps with o.g. which are sound and fine-very fine, most are fine-very fine appearing or better for these; a great opportunity to acquire many scarce stamps and certainly worthy of careful examination with Michel catalog value well in excess of €80,000; scarcer stamps throughout are found with old-time signatures as well as some Bundesprufers and accompanied by nine German expert's opinions, six APS certificates and one PF certificate.
