#10f, 1863 5c Green, Head Inverted, full margins
all around except just clearing design at top left, beautiful rich color in
the green shade, fresh white paper, light "Trevi/31 Mar 63" c.d.s., very
fine; the 1863 Green shade is actually one of the rarest of all the 5c
shades to find with an inverted center, and to find one without faults such
as this example is truly a difficult task; signed Emilio and Enzo Diena,
and accompanied by the latter's 1988 certificate (Sassone #13Ea;

1998 APS certificate (Sassone #14Df; L5,500,000).

108b |
#108b, 1954 30c Owen Falls Dam, Vignette
Inverted, a fresh used example of this error showing the dam and
inscription inverted but properly placed in the design, this being one
of only three recorded examples, all of which are used, similar
centering to the other two, light c.d.s., miniscule crease confined to the
left margin, still very fine; although issued in 1954, this error was not
discovered until 1983, when a collector in the United States found one in
his notebook of duplicates, the second example was found in 1992 in a
glassine of common stamps and was auctioned in 1993 by Christies for
$10,500.00 plus the 15% buyer's premium (described with "slight creasing");
similarly, this example was discovered in a mixture of common stamps in
1996; it is now believed that one position on the sheet contained the
inverted vignette since it is correctly positioned within the design; the
5c from this set with a similar design also has one used example known with
an inverted vignette; one of the great modern rarities of the world and
one of the highlights of the Balner collection, it will undoubtedly be
a long time before this error is offered at public auction again (S.G.
#171a; £11,000). (Image) |
