1540 (*) image1861/74: Strong and most attractive Collection starting with 1861 fiscals for passports in the Matraire-De La Rue transitional period, incl. an issue of provisional fixed duty fiscals in red numbered 1 to 6 together with an issue of 14 bills of exchange, numbered 7 to 20 in violet also issued in 1863, proved to be Matraire’s last. All 20 are reproduced and described in a document shown here entitled “Marche da Bollo provisorie” signed by Quintino Sella, Minister of Finance, apparently not referenced in Marchetto’s ‘Marche da Bollo D’Italia. De La Rue specimens plus the 1863 issued series follow with specimen sheets (advance proof sheet overprinted “SAGGIO” on each stamp) and specimen sheet in the two issued colours. 1864, Turin, 3 March, Royal Decree authorising the use of fiscals for passports and foreign business documentation, along with a specimen sheet showing 3 stamps, the third being used for foreign business documentation. 1867, De La Rue proofs for fiscals for Civil Actions, examples before and after hardening along with issued stamp. The issued stamps (1871 issue) were overprinted with a diamond frame on end and defined by three wavy lines. This raised the value of the stamp by two-tenths. 1870, provisional fixed duty fiscals in the design of the 1864 passport fiscals but in blue. 1868, 1869 and 1871 issues in different designs. 1 January 1874, Fiscal stamp for identification booklets issued. Finally Imperforate filing proofs (2) together with perforated example. A strong ensemble, well written up.
