1910/11: “Large Papua” perf 12½, Crown over double-lined A watermark, Vignette Stone IV varieties, Position 18 “White Triangle on Lakatoi”. A specialised study of the Position 18 constant flaw (“White triangle on
Lakatoi”) across the 1910/11 Large Papua series, comprising the ½ d. black & green, 1 d. black & carmine, 2 d. black & dull-purple, 2½ d. black & blue-violet, 4 d. black & sepia, 6 d. black & myrtle-green, 1 s. black &
deep-orange and 2 s. 6 d. black & brown (1st & 2nd printings), with seven values represented by both watermark upright and watermark upright inverted. Included are the additional constant varieties 2 d. “PCSTAGE” C for O in POSTAGE (SG77a)
and 4 d. “Deformed d” (SG79a). The page forms a cohesive plating study of the Stone IV flaw through multiple denominations and watermark orientations, a level of completion seldom encountered intact. Condition generally fine to very fine unused with
large part original gum. Basic catalogue value £935; however, for lithographed constant flaws, such varieties merit a multiplier of three times catalogue, giving an effective comparative value in the region of £2'800 (Image 1)

1930 (15 Sept): “AIR MAIL” carmine overprints on Lakatoi issues, comprising 6 d. dull and pale purple (SG116) and 1 s. sepia and olive (SG117), Harrison printing. A specialised study page including two lower
marginal imprint blocks of six showing “T.S. Harrison, Australian Note and Stamp Printer”, each with the overprint in differing shades, the 1 s. with the early deep carmine shade and the 6 d. in the normal carmine. Both blocks include position 39
“Tail flaw”, clearly visible in the right-hand stamp of the second row. Fresh colour and good centring throughout, the imprint margins clear and well preserved, large part og. A rare and visually impressive pair of multiples illustrating this
distinctive constant variety; imprint blocks particularly desirable and seldom encountered in conjunction with the position 39 flaw (Image 1)

1930 (15 Sept): Lakatoi “AIR MAIL” carmine overprint on 1 s. sepia and olive Harrison and Ash printings, specialised positional study comprising three lower marginal imprint strip of three, each showing position
39 which attracted the “Tail flaw" to overprint before re-touching. The group comprises a T.S. Harrison imprint strip of three, with deep carmine overprint showing clearly the "Tail Flaw" and another Harrison and Ash imprints with position 39
re-touched, providing a useful comparative reference for the overprint variety. Fresh colour and clear impressions throughout, the imprint margins well preserved with large part og. slight browning as is common, an attractive and informative
positional study of this recognised air mail overprint flaw. A scarce and specialised group illustrating the position 39 across the different printings. Ref: Collector’s Guide to the Stamps of British New Guinea and the Territory of Papua
(1884–1942), Parr & Robinson, illustrated on page 129 (block with Tail Flaw) (Image 1)

three additional singles: a further example of position 11, one on the scarcer white paper and one used example. A rare and visually impressive group, the deep carmine shade being unpriced. The imprint block particularly desirable and seldom
encountered. Cert. Ceremuga (2012) (Image 1)
