3740 bof/(*) image1864/71: 6 d. red-brown, wmk. NZ, comb perf. 12½ at Auckland, an unused block of twenty-four (8 x 3), of wonderful fresh colour, some soiling on reverse only with minor vertical creasing on the sixth and seventh row which does not detract and was probably caused by the irregularity of the Auckalnd comb. perf. machine, without gum. A splendid multiple for the connoisseur. Cert. Holcombe (1988) Gi = £ 18'000. Provenance: Collection Maurice Burrus, Robson Lowe, London, 23 July 1963, lot 271; collection "Antipodes", Corinphila sale 798, 28 Sept 1988, lot 3543 (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

3741 o imageNew Colours 1871/73: 2 d. 'deep' blue, wmk. Large Star, Plate I (worn state), perf. 10 x 12½, a used example showing a "wet print" at top - causing an unusual shade of pale blue, very lightly cancelled in black. An extremely rare stamp in splendid quality. Cert. Holcombe (1988) Gi = £ 20'000. Note: This stamp is listed by SG in 'deep blue', which this stamp is palpably not, and indeed when one looks at the Ferrari auction catalogue, it was also in a pale shade over 100 years ago. Not to be confused with the perf. 10 all round used example (Gi 129a) in pale blue which is unique, nevertheless this stamp is also of quite considerable rarity. Provenance: Collection Baron Philippe Ferrari de la Renotière, Druout, Paris, Sale X, 18-20 June 1924, lot 407; "Antipodes", Corinphila sale 798, 28 Sept 1988, lot 3660 (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)
