Second Watermark, 1915: 5 s. grey and yellow, Die II, variety double printed frame, lightly hinged original gum, rich deep colour and exceptionally well centred, originating from the discovery strip of four, the distinctive
double impression clearly evident in the downward shift resulting in a prominent extra upper frameline above the Kangaroo’s head. A choice example of this great rarity; with 2007 Ceremuga certificate and 1977 RPSL photocopy certificate for the pair
from which this stamp originated. Gi = £ 15'000 / ACSC 43c Note: Only ten examples of this double printed frame are recorded, of which just four, from the original strip discovered in 1915, are known mint without the O.S. puncture; one resides
in the Australia Post Archival Collection (ex R.T.P. Chapman) and is not available to collectors. The strip of four was first split into pairs, and subsequently two singles. A major rarity and an essential cornerstone for any exhibition collection of
this issue. Provenance: Collection Sir Gawaine Baillie, Sotheby's, Melbourne, July 13-15, 2005, lot 167; Collection Arthur Gray, Shreves Philatelic Galleries, New York, 22-3 February 2007, lot 391 (Image 1)

Third Watermark, 1915/27: 2½ d. deep indigo, Die II, Plate II, 1919 Harrison printing, a well centered example showing the striking variety "Missing '1' in ½" from position 2L33, bold partial Melbourne c.d.s., a few trivial
shorter perfs, typical as these stamps are often found with "fluffy" perfs, a renowned rarity with tremendous visual appeal, one of the most important stamps of the Kangaroo series and a key piece for any exhibition collection. Cert. RPSL (1981,
photocopy). Gi = £ 35'000+ / ACSC 11b(2)j = $37,500+ Note: The celebrated “Missing Fraction” is widely recognised as the most famous variety of the entire Kangaroo & Map series, occurring solely on T.S. Harrison’s indigo printing as the
result of an ink‑clogging flaw that was swiftly corrected. The Australian Commonwealth Specialists’ Catalogue records only three mint and twelve used examples, one of which is held in The Royal Philatelic Collection of His Majesty King Charles III,
and three of which are punctured “OS" (Image 1)
