436 cover imageAbdur Rahman Issue 1880/90 (Dated 1298): Watercolour Abasi purple on white, a cut-round example used on reverse of 1885 cover from the recently opened Post office in Kandahar to Quetta, British India cancelled initially by pen-stroke and also tied by barred "F. No. 1" Field Post Office No. 1 (Proud K1) obliterator in black. The Mail was exchanged with the Indian P.O. at "Gulistan-Karez" with circular datestamp in black (March 13) which at the time was the Railhead on the Sind - Pishin Railway, which was being extended to Chaman as a Military measure (not Public Works) so Field Post Offices were therefore provided for use by both Military and Civilian personnel. Framed "Postage Due / Anna" handstamp applied with Quetta (Baluchistan) arrival cds (March 20) at left. Faults to envelope as to be expected but of great rarity - one of just three covers recorded on the Southbound route at this period.
