1850/1950, used collection comprising a good selection of classics, provisional overprints, airmail issues and a study of peruvian cancellations on the 1878 issue, illustrating the chilean occupation of the country during the Pacific War. In addition a handfull of covers including two postal usages of the 1880 Revenues.  An interesting collection in quite mixed condition.

The first issue of Chile was issued on July 1 1853, a Friday. This is the earliest recorded use of a Colon stamp on letter and virtually the 'First day cover' of Chilean philately. The paper of the entire partly slightly weak in the folds, otherwise very fine and fresh. A beautiful and very rare letter. 5 c. rot-braun auf gebläutem Papier, senkrechtes Paar, zusammen mit 10 c. tief hellblau auf gelblichem Papier, alle mit reichlichem bis meist breitem Rand, das Paar mit einem Teil der angrenzenden Marke am Fuß, gebunden mit senkrechten roten Zielstempeln, quer auf dem Paar angebracht, mit angrenzender roter gerader Linie "COPIAPO" auf Briefbogen nach Cordoba, Argentinien, . Das Papier des Ganzstücks teilweise leicht schwach in den Falten, sonst sehr tadellos und frisch. Ein schöner und sehr seltener Brief. Einer von nur zwei erfassten Briefen mit der kompletten ersten Ausgabe und einer von sehr wenigen erfassten Briefen nach Argentinien mit dem ersten Londoner Druck. Befund Holcombe (1985). (Scott1+2)
