174 image1907 POPLAR-HILL-ONT to JAPAN & CHINA, #89 pays the UPU printed matter rate on postcard dated DEC23,1907 and addressed to Kobe-Japan, the card had a 12 word message and should have been charged the full 2¢ UPU postcard rate but was missed by the Canadian postal clerks, routing via train to Vancouver but missed the EMPRESS of JAPAN DEC 24th sailing + forwarded to Seattle for PSSCo sailing to Yokohama on JAN 19th + overland to Kobe on JAN 20th + forwarded to Shanghai-China with no postage due for conversion from non forwardable printed matter to a first class forwardable rate, China was also not a UPU member but the card was still accepted with no additional fees, great item with VF est ($100+ US) (Image)

175 image1909 CANADA SOLDIER RATE to CHINA, #89 pays the 1¢ soldiers postcard rate from Edmonton-Alta on MAY19,1909 and addressed to a soldier in the French 16th Colonial Infantry Division at Peking, routing via Vancouver + EMPRESS of CHINA departing Vancouver on JUN 3rd + Shanghai arrival JUN 20th + overland to Peking on JUN 24th, China was not a member of the UPU at this time but they accepted the card with no additional fees, the card has a message written in French, a rare rate and VF est ($75+ US) (Image)

177 image1919 RETURNED for WAR TAX, an Admiral #104 franked postcard short pays the 2¢ war tax rate from Montreal on DEC4,1919 to Danvelle-VT, as there was no return address on the card it was sent to the MONTREAL-BRANCH-DLO on DEC 5th where a note was sent to the addressee requesting 2¢ postage due comprising 1¢ war tax plus 1¢ fine, this was paid and another 1¢ stamp #104 was applied before the card re-entered the postal system on DEC 17th, a great card with two scarce MONTREAL-DLO h/s and an unreported bilingual “Returned for War Tax” h/s, VF est ($75+ US) (Image)

178 image1926 NIAGARA-FALLS-ONT SHORT-PAID to USA, #107 on a 2 ounce envelope short pays the 4¢ USA letter rate + 1¢ War Tax to Sanford-Ala by 3¢, routing via Buffalo-NY where it passed customs free and forwarded to the Bristol-VA-DPO where a note was sent to the addressee requesting 6¢ postage due for double the 3¢ deficiency, this was paid and 3¢ in USA stamps were applied before re-posting to the addressee on JAN 18th, a scarce dual country franking, F-VF est ($55+ US) (Image)
