VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE MINT NEVER-HINGED PLATE BLOCK OF THE 5-CENT UNWATERMARKED BUREAU POSTAGE DUE ISSUE.
There are no recorded top plate blocks. This is the first plate block in any condition we have offered since keeping computerized records. Another in Mint N.H. condition was also offered in the Wampler sale. (Image)
FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 10-CENT UNWATERMARKED BUREAU POSTAGE DUE ISSUE.
The first Bureau printings in 1894 were on unwatermarked paper, which was soon replaced with USPS-watermarked stock. Many denominations on unwatermarked paper were issued in extremely small quantities. Also, the popular collecting of imprint and plate number strips of three drastically reduced the number of plate blocks of six. We have offered only two since keeping computerized records. None was offered in Lilly, Todd or Wampler.
Scott Retail as singles -- the catalogue value as a plate block is only $3,250.00, which in no way reflects its true rarity. (Image)
