THE UNIQUE ASHBROOK RECONSTRUCTION”--A BLOCK OF SIX DIVIDED INTO TWO VERTICAL STRIPS AND REJOINED TO FORM ONE EXTREMELY FINE AND INCOMPARABLE SHOWPIECE.
The left strip was owned by Stanley B. Ashbrook. In 1918, while viewing the Judge Robert S. Emerson collection, he realized that a similar strip owned by the judge had once adjoined his own. The reconstructed block is illustrated in the Brookman book (Volume 1, page 43).
Vertical 5c 1847 strips are very rare, on or off cover. It is reported that only one other 5c multiple exists with both double transfers--a pair from Positions 80 and 90R--but the pair is cut into at bottom and right.
Ex Emerson, Ashbrook, Newbury, Dr. Morris and Mirsky. With 1980 Freidl and 1983 P.F. certificates. 1996 Calvet M. Hahn analysis accompanies. (Image)

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM PAIR OF THE
10-CENT 1847 ISSUE. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH THE SHEET MARGIN.
To underscore the rarity of any original-gum multiple of the 10c 1847, there are only three unused blocks recorded (two with original gum), one of which is contained in the Hirzel collection at the Swiss PTT Museum. Only four pairs and a strip of three could be located in our computerized sale records using Power Search.

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE STRIP OF FIVE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE. VERY FEW LARGE MULTIPLES ARE KNOWN.
Very few intact multiples of this size are recorded. The famous Rush cover (in the William H. Gross Collection and last sold by Siegel in 2006) bears a horizontal strip of six, and there are five other covers containing intact strips of either five (four covers) or six (one other cover). Strips of four are known used, most of which probably paid the transcontinental rate.
Ex Rose. With 1996 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail as strip of three and pair (Image)
