VERY FINE AND RARE NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY LIBERTY HEAD POSTAL CARD ESSAY.

This typographed essay contains the same design elements as the 1c UX1E-W essays, but with the Liberty head indicia instead of the 1870 stamp issue Franklin head. This has been attributed to National Bank Note Co. manager James MacDonough.

Railway Co. printed form on back, deep dark color with clearly evident Die II characteristics, uncommonly fresh, Very Fine and choice, a highly collectible example of this rare Die II issue, this substandard grade of card was used temporarily, for a period of about two months, they were not sold singly, but were supplied to printers, with 2004 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail for mint card is $22,500.00 and for preprinted (face) $550.00, USPCC catalogue advises that "clean face" cards are valued somewhere between mint and unused (Image)
