VERY FINE AND CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE PETERSBURG POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ON A FRESH AND EXTREMELY FINE COVER.

This is an early state of Position 1 with the "e" of "Office" very complete and the "G" of "Petersburg" fully formed.

Keblinger, blue "PAID", "5", "10" and double-circle datestamps, 5c with partly clear Sep. 1861 date, 10c with Sep. 8, 1861 date, addressed to Richmond Va. and Newberry S.C. respectively, both covers with edge faults and the 10c with some slight staining, otherwise Fine, these are the only recorded examples of the Charlottesville Postmaster's Provisional entires, with 2000 C.S.A. certificates, listed but unpriced in Scott (Image)
