Signed declaration by aeronaut Rolier regarding the special medal that was made honoring the French pilots, whose balloon crashed near Lidfjell, Norway, an example of the medal is also included, as is a folded letter carried on the flight (No. BM33), which was sent to St.. Brieuc and redirected to St. Servan

FINE. AN IMPORTANT AND UNIQUE COLLATERAL ITEM FOR AN ADVANCED COLLECTION OR EXHIBIT OF THE BALLON MONTE MAIL.

The balloon Ville d'Orleans crashed in Norway after crossing the North Sea. The two-man crew survived and carried the mail back to France, where it was put in the mail. The Norwegians treated the pilots as heroes, as Norway supported the French in the Franco-Prussian War. A special medal was made that was sold for the benefit of wounded French soldiers. This hand-written declaration by Rolier attests that 35,000 of these special medals were made.
