1151 c Image1927, June 2, Byrd Transatlantic Flight (AAMC 1060). Flown cover to the U.S. Ambassador in Paris, 5c Blue tied by "New York, N.Y. G. P. O., Jun. 21 2PM 1927" duplex, typed "New York to Paris via Airplane 'America'", attractive cachet of a biplane with "U.S. Mail" on side, "Ver-su-Mer 2-7 27" receiving circular datestamp, cover with a couple corner creases from mounts, otherwise Very Fine, the America, carrying official airmail across the Atlantic for the first time, was a monoplane that completed its transatlantic flight exactly one month after the Spirit of St. Louis made its historic solo trip, she was forced down off the coast after circling Paris (unable to land due to fog), this is one of the few pieces of mail to retain its stamp, accompanied by a postcard with a photograph of the plane partly submerged in the water (Image)
