VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A COLORFUL AND RARE USE OF THE 12-CENT AND ONE-CENT 1869 ISSUE ON A 25-CENT AMERICAN PACKET RATE COVER TO ARGENTINA.

This franking was used to pay the 25c rate for service via American Packet to Rio de Janeiro, and from there by French packet to Buenos Aires. However, the rate was reduced to 18c in January 1870 so this was overpaid by 7c. The 1869 PRA Census records only three 12c covers to Argentina.
