952 c Image1c Navy (O35). Cancelled by cork and used as forwarding postage on cover to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, originating postage paid by 3c Green (158) tied by segmented cork cancel, "Baltimore Md. Oct. 13 7PM" (1877) circular datestamp, addressed to a sailor on the U.S.S. Hartford at Norfolk Va., on arrival in Norfolk this was held for about a month and then forwarded to Brazil, "Washington D.C. Nov. 16 5PM" circular datestamp, receipt docketing in pencil from January, receiving backstamp (Jan. 1, 1878), small cover repair at bottom right corner does not affect stamp which does have a tiny corner perf crease from placement near edge of cover, Very Fine and very unusual use (Image)
