2035 ngbl ImageISRAEL, 1948, 3m Orange on Thin White Paper, Perf 11, Sandwich Printing, Plate Blocks (Bale Group 9.2). Four plate blocks, consisting of serial no. 17912 from Group 9, no. 17913 from Group 9.2, serial no. 17920 from Group 9.2, and serial no. 17922 from Group 9, unused (no gum) (all examples of Group 9.2 are without gum)

VERY FINE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE ASSEMBLAGE OF FOUR PLATE BLOCKS SHOWING THE COMPLETE SANDWICH GROUP.

A sandwich printing is a printing on a mixture of paper, with the serial numbers in the middle of the main group. In this case, the vast majority of Group 9 were printed on Thin Yellow paper. However, a small number (nine at maximum) of sheets were printed on Thin White paper. The group offered here contains the lowest number of the Sandwich printing (17913), and the number of the normal printing preceding it (17912), as well as the highest number of the Sandwich printing (17920), and the number of the normal printing following (17922). Such "complete sandwich" groups are extremely difficult (if not impossible) to assemble.

Only eight plate blocks from Group 9.2 are recorded. Bale for the two sandwich blocks $6,000.00 (Image)

VERY FINE. THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF A PLATE BLOCK FROM GROUP 9.2a. A KEY PLATE BLOCK RARITY OF THE DOAR IVRI ISSUE.

Accompanied by a 1994 Guarantee of Authenticity from Michael Bale in which he notes this is a hitherto unknown sub-group between 9.2 and 9.3, and will be listed in the next Bale catalogue as Group 9.2a.
