Jul. 8" (1862) double-circle datestamp with manuscript "due" and "5" handstamp on cover to Aiken S.C., "official business" endorsement at top, Very Fine and unusual use, official mail except for Post Office business was subject to standard postage rates, this was sent one week after the universal 10c rate went into effect and was charged 5c for the deficiency, ex Gimelson (Image)

Jun. 13, 1862" circular datestamp on cover addressed to Savannah Ga., the distance was slightly more than 500 miles so manuscript "Due 5" was applied for 10c rate, cover was not called for and so forwarded to Charleston S.C. with additional 5c De La Rue (6) tied over first stamp by "Savannah Ga. Jul. ?" circular datestamp, the uniform 10c rate was in effect beginning July 1 so cover was again short paid and struck with "Due 5" in oval handstamp, small cover edge flaws and top stamp tiny nick and corner crease, still Fine, a most unusual forwarded use showing postage due for two different reasons, ex Gimelson (Image)
