Scott Retail $3,500.00 (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE DROP-RATE USE OF THE 2-CENT GREEN LITHOGRAPH.
Ex Gimelson. With 1999 C.S.A. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE FINEST OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED ON-COVER BLOCKS OF FIVE OF THE 2-CENT GREEN LITHOGRAPH ISSUE. A SPECTACULAR ADVERSITY USE WITHIN TEXAS.
The census of 2c Green Lithograph covers by Dr. Daniel C. Warren, published in the 2011 Congress Book, lists eleven covers from Texas, including one from the Scott correspondence with a block of five. Two others from the Scott correspondence are also known with blocks of five (see updated census below). Of the four recorded covers with blocks of five, the example offered here is in the finest condition. None are sound but the faults on the others are more severe, including one with part of a stamp missing. The four covers are as follows:
1) Adversity use postmarked Anderson Texas, unclear date, to Galveston, Scott correspondence, ex Freeman, Siegel Sale 1071, lot 4668, Warren Census No. TX-001
2) Adversity use postmarked Anderson Texas, Apr. 13, to Galveston, Scott correspondence, the cover offered here, unlisted in Warren Census
3) Adversity use postmarked Anderson Texas, May 28, to Galveston, Scott correspondence, ex Dr. Brandon, Siegel Sale 1087, lot 311, unlisted in Warren Census
4) Adversity use postmarked Kosciusko Miss. Aug. 20, to Bear Creek Ga., ex Seybold, Knapp, Brooks and Felton, Siegel Sale 1016, lot 715, Warren Census No. MS-005
With clear 2014 C.S.A. certificate (Image)
