2196   ImageEdward Wilder, 1c Green, Experimental Silk Paper, Imperforate (RS265e). Large margins all around including plate layout line at top left, showing few short blue silk fibers, deep rich color in the so-called "blue green" shade which is typical of the later printings, tiny pinhole at right center in "Y" of "KY"

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE IMPERFORATE ONE-CENT EDWARD WILDER ISSUE ON EXPERIMENTAL SILK PAPER IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL MEDICINE STAMPS. ONLY TWO ARE KNOWN.

The Edward Wilder stamp depicts the five-story building at 215 West Main St. in Louisville, which today is the location of the KFC Yum! Center Arena and is half a dozen blocks from the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. The die cut version of the 1c on experimental silk paper was first listed in Scott Catalogue in 1937, unpriced. The imperforate version on experimental silk paper is a relatively new discovery. The stamp offered here was sold in the Joyce sale as on old paper. However, the old paper stamps were printed in a distinctly different yellow green color (see lot 2193). The P.F. has certified one other, also from the top row of the sheet, which has a light vertical crease.

2198 og ImageEdward Wilder, 4c Vermilion, Experimental Silk Paper, Imperforate (RS266Ae). Original gum which covers almost the entire back, large margins, radiant color, horizontal crease at bottom, two tiny pinholes

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED IMPERFORATE EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT VERMILION EDWARD WILDER ISSUE. ONE OF THE KEYS TO A COMPLETE COLLECTION OF THESE ISSUES.

A fair number of imperforate 1c Edward Wilder stamps are known on a variety of papers (old, silk, watermarked and experimental silk). However, the stamp offered here is the only example of the 4c Vermilion known in imperforate form (it is on experimental silk paper). All other examples of the 4c Vermilion are die cut.
