VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT BENNETT PIETER & CO. ISSUE ON SILK PAPER. ONLY THREE OF THE TEN RECORDED EXAMPLES ARE POTENTIALLY SOUND.

The Aldrich census records a total of 10 examples of this issue, of which at least seven have faults.

Intense shade and impression, few blue silk fibers visible on the front of the stamp, few faults including thin spots, creases and pinhole at right, otherwise Fine and extremely rare, only eight are recorded in the Aldrich book, at least two have perfs trimmed on one side, this is the first we have offered since 1998, this rarity was missing from both the Tolman and "Scarsdale" collections, with 1984 P.F. certificate (Image)
