4109°   ImageBRITISH GUIANA, 1856, 4c Rose Carmine (14a; SG 25). Huge balanced margins all around, fresh paper color without the cracks and rubs that nearly always affect this stamp, initials of Postmaster E.D.W(ight), light Demerara circular datestamp, unobtrusive light horizontal crease at top where it was affixed at the edge of an envelope

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THE 1856 4-CENT ROSE CARMINE. A STRIKING EXAMPLE OF THIS CLASSIC RARITY.

Few examples of the 1856 4-Cent on Rose Carmine paper are found with margins of this size. In addition, most have surface rubbing or cracking that is notably absent on this example. Despite the light crease, this can be considered one of the finest of the few number known. It is certainly one of the most (if not the most) visually appealing.

With 2017 B.P.A. certificate. SG £40,000 (Image)
