2482 c Image10c Dark Blue, Hoyer & Ludwig (2b). Huge margins to clear, tied by "Tudor Hall Va. Dec." circular datestamp on on red and blue 11-Star Confederate Flag and "Pelican Regimt." Flag, Tent and "Crescent Rifles, Company H, 7th Reg't. La. Volunteers" Regimental Patriotic cover (TF-5) to Dover Miss., expertly repaired spot at top, lightly cleaned and some minor cosmetic improvement along edges

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE REGIMENTAL PATRIOTIC, PRODUCED EARLY IN THE WAR.

We surveyed more than 40 different Confederate sale catalogues and reference books and located only six examples of this distinctive Crescent Rifles patriotic. Four are used from Tudor Hall.

As a Colonel, Harry T. Hays was the original commander of the 7th Louisiana Volunteers, which was called the Pelican Regiment. Although composed of farmers, laborers and clerks, the Louisiana 7th Regiment was described as a "crack regiment" by Gen. Richard Taylor. Hays went on to become a General. [Source: www.panix.com]

Feb. 1862" circular datestamp on lady's small cover to Alabama, very slightly reduced at left (not noted on certificate), Extremely Fine, a lovely cover and a scarce use of the 10c Hoyer & Ludwig from Norfolk, the city was occupied beginning on May 10, 1862, and was held by the Union for the duration of the War, so there was only approximately six months during which this stamp could be used there, ex Caspary, with 2017 P.F. certificate (Image)
