Jan. 16, 1858" circular datestamp on folded letter to Rapperswyl, Switzerland, well-struck "GB/1F60c" Anglo-French accountancy handstamp, "Boston Br. Pkt. 27 Jan." backstamp, also London, Paris, Zurich, Basel and receiving backstamps, red crayon "95" rappen due from recipient, light horizontal file fold well away from stamp, the stamp with small scissors cut at top left and small toned spot in right margin, otherwise Very Fine, carried on the Cunarder America, which departed Boston Jan. 27, 1858 and arrived Liverpool Feb. 9, this was then sent to France where forwarded to Switzerland, the 12c stamp overpaid the 5c rate (3c domestic U.S. postage plus 2c shore-to-ship fee) and was treated as unpaid for sea postage, Great Britain charged France postage and the recipient paid 95 rappen (equivalent to 18c), a most unusual use, signed Holcombe and with his certificate, with 2004 P.F. certificate (Image)
