2201 c Image5c Red Brown (1). Horizontal pair, large margins to clear, tied by pen strokes on blue 1851 cover originating in Canada and addressed to Harrisburg Pa., clear strike of "Hamilton C.W. JA 20, 1851" origination circular datestamp at lower left, magenta "4-1/2" pence indicates Canadian postage paid in cash, "PAID" handstamp applied at Hamilton is crossed out and with manuscript "paid to the lines" at top, "Queenston U.C. JA 21, 1851" backstamp (partly missing as is part of top flap), red "Lewiston N.Y. Jan. 21" circular datestamp, right stamp light vertical crease ending in tiny tear at top, left stamp small tear at bottom center, still Very Fine and rare 1847 Issue cover originating in Canada and sent to Pennsylvania (Image)

May 18, 1850" circular datestamp at lower left, stamp with small corner crease and small toned spots at top right, otherwise Very Fine, a desirable use originating outside of the United States, the 5c stamp was cancelled at Sackett's Harbor, which is just across Lake Ontario from Kingston, ex Pope, with 1963 and 2011 P.F. certificates (Image)

Large margins to clear, tied by bold red grid cancel, matching "Savannah 5 Jan. 28" integral-rate circular datestamp on 1851 folded tissue-paper letter to Avize, France, carried on the Cunarder Canada which departed Boston Feb. 12 and arrived Liverpool Feb. 23 but not cancelled in Boston, red "COLONIES/&c ART. 13" Anglo-French accountancy handstamp, London, Calais and receiving circular datestamps, "15" decimes due handstamp, light file fold well away from stamp, some soiling, Very Fine, signed Ashbrook and accompanied by his signed note which points out that the normal rate from Savannah to New York or Boston is over 300 miles so a 10c rate would normally apply except the U.S.-British postal treaty provided for a payment of 5c per half ounce for internal postage, with 1990 P.F. certificate (Image)

Two singles, large margins, tied by red grid cancels on folded letter datelined "New Orleans 15 Sept. 1849" and addressed to Amsterdam, Holland carried outside of the mails from New Orleans to Boston for the Cunard sailing, clear strike of red "Forwd. by T.W. Ward, Boston" oval handstamp with "PR. EUROPA" below also struck by the forwarder, manuscript "100" due marking, London (Oct. 8 and Oct. 11) backstamps, address reinked and partly replaced, some slight overall wear, Fine appearance, the two 5c stamps overpay the inland postage rate for transatlantic mail, carried on the Cunarder Europa, which departed Boston Sep. 26 and arrived in Liverpool Oct. 7, with 1998 P.S.E. certificate (Image)
