805   ImageJuly 1, 1898 First Day of Issue, Spanish-American War Revenues on Documents. Approximately 20 documents mostly mounted on exhibit pages, nearly all are dated July 1, 1898 with handstamps or in manuscript, issues include 1c-2c "I.R." overprints as well as Battleships, documents include a number of bank checks, also drafts, promissory notes, a deed and indenture, one particularly interesting use with 30 50c Battleships with 5c and 25c Battleships on a promissory note dated July 1 and canceled on July 2, six 25c Battleships on an indenture dated July 1, two illegal uses of 2c Bureau issue (only Documentary revenue issues were valid), also a check signed by Robert E. Peary of North Pole fame, Very Fine and fascinating group of First Day uses, the War Revenue Act went into effect on July 1, 1898, while supplies of the stamps were available throughout the country, First Day uses are scarce, this represents an unusual opportunity for study (Image)
