245   Image$500.00 Carmine, "Series 1944" Ovpt. (R409). Serial no. 10660, brilliant color, neat blue "CANCELLED" handstamp

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE $500.00 "SERIES OF 1944" OVERPRINT WHICH IS CANCELLED SOLELY BY A HANDSTAMP. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE.

This issue, when it is found at all, normally comes with either cut cancels or perfins, or will have staple holes. The example offered here, with none of those detractions, is a true condition rarity.

Ex Cunliffe, Lyons and Floyd. With 1999 P.F. certificate (Image)
