Jun. 5" circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLE UNBITED STATES AND HAWAII MIXED-FRANKING COVER WITH THE 12-CENT 1851 ISSUE AND 1857 5-CENT KAMEHAMEHA III SECOND PRINTING FROM POSITION 2 -- THE LINE THRU "HONOLULU" TRANSFER VARIETY.

This cover was carried on the schooner Liholiho, which departed Honolulu on Apr. 26, 1858 (mail was datestamped on Apr. 21) and arrived in San Francisco on May 21 (mail for the East Coast was datestamped on June 5).

Paid 6 15 Jan." circular datestamps on blue 1853 folded cover to Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, green Birmingham and receiving backstamps, red "3" credit handstamp, red "America Liverpool Paid MR 2, 1853" transit circular datestamp, horizontal file fold at top affects 1c and 12c stamps which were originally folded over top edge of cover and cover refolded for display

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE COVER WITH A COMPLETE SET OF THE 1851 ISSUE USED TO FULLY PREPAY THE 29-CENT RATE FROM CALIFORNIA TO ENGLAND.

The rate paid was 10c transcontinental plus 16c packet plus 3c for British internal postage. Carried on the Collins Line Atlantic, which departed New York Feb. 19, 1853, and arrived in Liverpool on March 2.

FRESH AND VERY FINE. THE USE OF FIVE ONE-CENT 1851 STAMPS FOR THE SHORE-TO-SHIP RATE ON TRANSATLANTIC MAIL IS EXTREMELY UNUSUAL. THE STRIP AND COMBINATION OF RED MARKINGS CREATE A COLORFUL AND RARE 1851 ISSUE COVER.
