1053 ng ImageGREAT BRITAIN, 1840, 1p "V.R." Official (O1, SG V1). Lettered G-D, unused (no gum), full to just clear margins all around, deep rich shade, crisp impression on fresh paper

FINE. A SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE "V.R." OFFICIAL. AN IMPORTANT GREAT BRITAIN OFFICIAL RARITY.

These "V.R." stamps were never officially placed into use despite being created for official correspondence. Although a small number went through the mails as an oversight by postal employees. Additionally, some examples were used by Rowland Hill to experiment with cancellations. Examples are often found cut into the design and/or with a myriad of faults.
