SERVICE" handstamp, 1833 folded letter with red "P. Office, Dead Letter" marking to Lebanon Conn., temperance illustrated cover with Hale imprint, green 36th Congress all-over illustrated cover with free frank to New York, few circulars, some faults to be expected, overall Very Fine and diverse group of 2c, circular, drop rates and other unusual items

478   "Survey of Main Post Road". Large bound volume of handwritten notes listing coordinates, course, distance, districts and remarks, laid out in two sections, the first is northern survey from Washington D.C. (first page is missing), second section titled "Survey from the Center of the General Post Office in the City of Washington on the north side of the street near 8th Street W. made by Francis Fenwick as far as Conneils, N.C. and thence to St. Mary's in Georgia by the Rev. David Wiley Commenced at the latter July 11, 1812", the remarks include such observances as whether soil is gravelly or clay, locations of buildings such as school houses, etc., some wear but remarkably intact for something that was dragged around the countryside more than 200 years ago, a wonderful collateral item for the early postal route enthusiast who is interested in doing additional research

Intact single-frame 16-page exhibit tracing the history of U.S. Congress Post Office markings from the 1860's-80's, range of datestamps incorporating "Congress" as well as Washington D.C. "Free" for free-franked member mail, East Capitol station datestamps, also various styles of "U.S. Senate" datestamps (these represent more of a mail room operation than an official post office), stamp issues including 3c 1861, 3c Bank Notes and one 10c Bank Note, also stampless free franks including a couple more prominent members such as Roscoe Conkling, Fine-Very Fine covers and an interesting exhibit which won first place at a COMPEX Chicago show many years ago
