Pkt. 7 Paid Sep. 8" credit datestamp on Major General John E. Wool Patriotic cover to Vienna, Austria, 1863 usage, red framed Aachen transit, endorsed "Per 'Arabia' via England & Belgium", receiving backstamp, 1c and one of the 3c stamps faulty

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SPECTACULAR AND RARE ANGELL PATRIOTIC COVER TO AUSTRIA COMBINING THE 12-CENT STAMP FROM THE 1857 ISSUE WITH THE ONE-CENT AND 3-CENT STAMPS FROM THE 1861 ISSUE.

Only five covers in the Matthies sale of Angell covers bear a combination of stamps from the two issues.

Curtenius and Eagle and Shield, Hoen imprint, to Brownsville Mich., some cover wear affects stamp, few edge tears, otherwise Very Fine, a scarce design, Curtenius came from a long line of military men and is notable for refusing his commanding officer's order to return slaves to their owners, he was dismissed by his commander and later vindicated, we are aware of perhaps a half-dozen used examples of this design (Image)
