4309 c ImagePomeroy's Letter Express, 5c Blue on Thin Bond (117L3). Large margins, uncancelled, used on folded cover addressed to an attorney in New York City, street address "Nassau & Cedar Sts. 3d Story", delivered by Boyd's City Express with 2c Black on Green Glazed (40L1), full to large margins, cancelled by red "Free" handstamp (impression ties thru paper), matching "Boyd's City/Express Post/July 6, 9 O'C" framed datestamp, docketed on interior flap "E. Seeley Feb. 5 - 1844", vertical folds, one of which slightly creases Boyd's stamp, otherwise Fine, the docketing date must refer to earlier correspondence contained within this cover, presumably a document for a legal matter, the Pomeroy & Co. stamp is uncancelled, but the July 6 arrival date and conjunctive usage with Boyd's local post fit perfectly with other known covers -- in our opinion this cover is completely genuine, but obviously offered on its own merits, because an expert committee is unlikely to certify that the uncancelled stamp originated (Image)
